Coronavirus/COVID-19:

What you need to know and how TDAL can help

Why PCR testing?

One of TDAL’s most important priorities has always been the health and safety of our employees, patients, customers, and the communities we serve. Part of our commitment and responsibility is to provide answers to questions you might have as well as testing resources, especially with regard to the coronavirus disease, better known as COVID-19.

WHO SHOULD GET TESTED

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends getting tested if you:

  • Experience known symptoms of the virus such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.
  • Have been in close contact with a person or persons that have been diagnosed with COVID-19
  • Have recently traveled from or visited an area where there is a known, widespread outbreak of COVID-19

And, the earlier you are able to detect the illness, the earlier you can begin treatment and/or take precautions to limit the spread of the illness to those around you.

TYPES OF TESTING FOR COVID-19

There are primarily two basic types of tests for the COVID-19 - an early exposure PCR or DNA amplification test and a post-exposure antibody/antigen test. The PCR / DNA test is the best form for early and accurate detection of COVID-19 as it can provide results long before you start to experience signs or symptoms of the disease. The antigen/antibody test is also available but really only provides results after a longer period of illness progression, following display of many of the signs/symptoms, and once the body’s immune system starts to develop a resistance response.

You can watch Dr. Michael E. Pichichero, an infectious disease specialist / immunologist, and Rebecca Love, a registered nurse and nursing community leader, explain the importance of testing and the various types of tests in this video that is being shared courtesy of Henry Schein, Inc.

DOT-Compliant Organizations

The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires special treatment for drug and alcohol testing for workers considered to be doing “safety-sensitive” jobs. Make sure you know when you fall under the requirements and have a trusted drug testing or alcohol testing partner who understands DOT regulations. We can help your company remain in keep up to date and remain in compliance with DOT testing regulations. We offer random program management for DOT testing, training, mock-audits, and more.

Judicial (Court-Ordered)

Court-ordered tests require care and professionalism when it comes to drug and alcohol testing. The courts mandate that a reliable drug and alcohol testing partner performs the test to ensure:

  • The individual under evaluation submitted the collection for testing.
  • The collection was not tampered with or falsified.
  • The collection went through a thorough process and results are reliable and accurate.
  • No part of the process, nor the results, were interrupted.
  • The drug court donors are treated with courtesy and respect.

The results of a court-ordered drug test carry significant implications in matters dealing with:

  • Drug Court
  • Court-Mandated Testing and Monitoring
  • Child Testing
  • Environmental Testing
  • Random Test Management
  • Child Custody
  • Unknown Substance Identification

TDAL Labs offers any of our drug and alcohol testing services for use in court-ordered testing. All of our laboratory and collection procedures follow the standards set by the Drug & Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA), and we use SAMHSA-certified labs for confirmation testing. This helps ensure that our drug testing or alcohol testing results are reliable and legally-admissible when needed.

Academic & Athletic Drug Testing

Teen drug use is nothing new, but the increase in the number of teens using/abusing drugs in addition to the types of drugs that are now available rightfully frightens parents and school administrators. TDAL Labs stays on top of teen drug trends and knows what to test for when drug use is suspected. We work with a number of schools and other organizational partners throughout the community to provide administrators the tools they need to tackle the problem.
